Hardy Tutoring

When you have a child who is struggling in school, nobody really understands. You can end up feeling so tired, helpless and judged by others. It’s a roller coaster between: “I want to help my amazing child SO MUCH” – and total frustration. You just want something to work fast or at least to know that you are on the right track. If you really want to know how to help your child I think you will find our approach refreshing.

Almost all tutoring programs are teaching the same way the teacher is teaching in school – all you’re doing is making them do more of the same, which isn’t working.

If your child is behind, it’s because they don’t learn the way it is taught at school. At Hardy Brain Training, we focus on identifying how your child learns and pinpointing the reasons in the way the brain is working that cause your child to fall behind.

Our SMARTS tutoring programs are all based on our simple formula for success:

SMARTS – Sensory Motor Activities Reinforce Thinking Skills

We’ve developed a measurement that actually discovers the processing areas where your child’s brain isn’t working as well as the brains of peers the same age. We’ve developed sensory based tutoring programs that make learning fun as they engage your child with movement and sensory based teaching methods that get to the root of the processing weakness and teach your child’s brain how to learn as they catch up with the academic work that is below grade level.

They get caught up with reading, math, spelling and writing AND their brain has learned how to process that information optimally so they can keep up in the future.

We find what works for the individual and then tailor what we do specifically to them – it’s not a cookie cutter process.

SMARTS Tutoring programs are designed just for your child’s learning, attention, behavior, and motivation challenges that have kept them from performing at their best.

SMARTS Tutoring programs are perfect for students who:

  • read hesitantly, skip letters or words, lose their place while reading
  • are not remembering what they read
  • have difficulty with correct spelling, grammar
  • have a hard time expressing themselves in writing
  • are behind their peers in math
  • get confused by multiple step math problems, word problems and math concepts
  • haven’t found a studying style that works for them
  • have poor organization habits so finding things is difficult, remembering homework assignments is spotty and turning in assignments is forgotten
  • have visual processing weaknesses that interfere with reading, copying from the board and remembering information they have seen
  • have auditory processing weaknesses where remembering and following directions is a problem, understanding what is being said is difficult and communication isn’t always clear.

You’ve wondered many times – perhaps for years – why aren’t they where their peers are and why hasn’t anyone been able to help?  There is a reason. Teachers are taught how to teach academics. They are not taught how to pinpoint why your child isn’t learning or to correct those problems. Our expertise is in identifying the missing pieces in how the brain is thinking so your child can close the gap in the classroom.

We identify the mental component – the missing brain skill – that’s preventing your child from absorbing information when it is taught in the classroom.

We specialize in correcting the missing step for your child that is natural to the other students who are doing well in class.

The SMARTS Tutoring programs help students who are behind in class, have learning disabilities, ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, Asperger’s, autism or simply get frustrated with learning.

Along with the SMARTS tutoring programs, we offer cognitive brain training programs to improve thinking speed and the ability to absorb information more quickly so learning gets faster and frustration goes away.

Who We Help

We only accept students into our programs who we believe we can help. We offer programs in our center in Camarillo, California and all across the United States in your home via video conferencing. All SMARTS programs are taught one-to-one with a credentialed teacher who has had SMARTS training to make your child’s learning experience a positive one.

We begin by gathering information from you on our on-line checklist. When you submit your information, we’ll set up a consultation at no charge. You’ll let us know a good time to talk and we’ll schedule our consultation to get acquainted with your child’s needs and determine if SMARTS can help with your child’s success. If we decide to move ahead and design a program for your child, we’ll set up your child’s assessment.

Depending on your child’s difficulties, the SMARTS Tutoring Assessment might include:

  • learning style
  • thinking speed
  • executive functioning
  • tracking
  • visual memory
  • auditory discrimination
  • academic level

How We Help

Your child’s program will be designed based on the academic needs and processing weaknesses that are at the root of the problems. This is not a cookie-cutter program.

The two basic components at the core of your child’s SMARTS program will be multi-sensory academic programs (like SMARTS Reading, Wilson Reading, Lindamood-Bell, Touch Math, SMARTS Spelling, SMARTS Math , SMARTS Comprehension/Visual Memory) for improving academic areas where your child has fallen behind combined with our stimulating sensory-motor activities for improving and speeding up the way your child’s brain is processing information.

Home-School help and programs for students desiring customized academic settings.

Small group programs and one-to-one sessions are designed to help the home-schooled child achieve more quickly and overcome the academic logjams that can frustrate parents as they work with their children. Help with academics, learning how to organize and carry out a project, and writers workshops are available to move your child quickly through the curriculum you have designed for your child’s needs. Daily instruction, two, three or four times a week meetings can be tailored to meet your needs.

Parent Programs

The SMARTS program offers a course that helps parents understand and identify ways to help their children. You’ll discover the important processing skills that make children successful and how to spot the signs that your child is missing one or more of these key processing skills.
